My Mom's Ovary and Uterine Surgery

My mom's surgery went very smoothly. It only took about half an hour or so. I was really surprised! She went in at 11:30am and the surgeon came out to tell me about the surgery around noon. He even brought pictures! In color and everything! One set of pictures were of the ovaries and the cysts on them, all of which he removed. So no more ovaries for my mom, but she doesn't need them anymore anyway. He then showed me the "after" pictures and said the removal went just fine. Next, he showed me pictures of the growths in her uterus. One was a non-cancerous fibroid that was in the muscle tissue, but he also found a polyp and took a sample of it (I got to see "after" pictures of that also). The sample was sent to the lab and it'll take about a week to get the results as to whether or not it is cancerous. I don't believe he removed the polyp or the fibroid in her uterus...he just did a dilation and curettage, which basically means the surgeon goes into the uterus with a spoon-shaped instrument and cleans it out. I only remember him saying that he removed the ovaries. I think she would need a separate type of operation to remove the growths in her uterus. Things kinda get jumbled up in the brain when you don't get much sleep and you feel anxious about your mom being in surgery. But we'll find out everything for sure during her post-op visit, which is about two weeks away.

The surgeon told me that my mom was doing fine and would be in the recovery room for an hour and then someone would come to take me to see her. When it started getting close to 1:15pm I began to worry. But by 1:30pm, a nurse brought me back to see her. She was a little pale and tired, but resting comfortably thanks to morphine. She lied there for a bit longer and then they had her get up, get dressed, and move to a recliner to sit up for a bit. Close to 3pm they decided she was ready to be discharged, so I went and got my car and took her home. And that was it! She was in there for a total of about 4 hours or so.

Once she got home she pretty much just wanted to sleep, so I didn't stay too long. The next day she was still in pain but feeling okay, and looked much better. Today I called her and she sounded better, but was having some cramps. This is supposed to be "normal" unless the pain is really bad or excessive, so hopefully they're just the "normal" kind.

Thank you to those who sent me well wishes for my mom and I. I really appreciate it. I'll write again when we get the results from the labs. I hate this waiting!
