Last time, on "The Kitty Litter..."
Hehe, anyway, more news...I think the saying, "No news is good news" just might be true.
So Spitty and Spooky got sick with the same thing that Archie has (which is almost into the "had" category). For some odd reason, Fluffy is just fine (cross your fingers or knock on wood or whatever works for you)!
We took them to the vet on Tuesday (the 10th) and were given some more of that lovely antibiotic, plus some ointment for their eyes. Spitty was also dehydrated so he had to get some fluids. But Fluffy seemed fine to the vet so he doesn't have to endure anything.
I was REALLY worried about my parents having to administer the meds to Spitty esp. I did it the first time, and she wasn't all that bad...Spooky was PERFECT. Yesterday (the 11th) my parents were on their own, and today was really cool...I wrapped Spitty up in this HUGE towel...it was SO cute...this HUGE towel with just this TINY little head sticking out. I should have taken a picture. I put the stuff in her eye with no problem. She didn't make a move. Putting the stuff in her mouth was a bit more difficult but I still have all ten fingers and overall she was a good girl. And even more funny, I did it by myself, while it takes both my mom and dad to give them the meds.
Spooky was not too cooperative today though. And Archie was pretty good, but I just couldn't get over SPITTY! Archie doesn't have much of the med left, and he is doing A LOT better. I didn't hear him sneeze once today. BUT I did hear someone else sneeze. PEPPER!!! My parents' other cat! NNNOOO!!! So I'm keeping an "eye" on him (get it, I'm keeping an eye on him and his eyes? Haha. YYeeah). I hope his immune system is resilient enough to give him the sniffles and that's it.
As for what to do with them...we haven't gotten any responses from our craigslist ad. I'm not surprised. We are in "competition" with free 8-week-old kittens and such...who have no medical procedures performed on them, it is unknown how healthy they are, so it'll probably cost the owners MORE than $100, or the poor kitties will be one of the be one of the thousands of unfortunate statistics who contribute more to the millions of dollars it takes for the state to house them and then end up euthanizing them. But okay, take your free kitten let him give your other kitty feline leukemia. Or contract some nasty disease from them yourself. Sorry to go off on that tangent. It's just frustrating that people don't recognize that they ARE getting a value for what we are charging.
So where was I...well, calling that lady and having her come and "take a look" at them is out until they are well. By then I am hoping the "good" streak that Spitty seems to be on (there is still a bit of hissing and holding on tight to anything she can get her claws on when you try to pick her up) continues, and that this woman will still be willing to come out and at least take them a look at them, but hopefully TAKE them. Of course they still have to have feline leukemia tests before she will even come out and take a look at them. Sigh.
But I WANT to be reimbursed. However, we are sorta getting to the point where we ALMOST would just have her take them. Okay, not ME so much, but Jeff seems to think this is getting so frustrating that we should just get rid of them any way we can...I prefer "find them homes" to "get rid of them," by the way.
We also took Allie to the vet today (the 12th) to get a feline leukemia test and it came back negative. Yay! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, getting her to the vet. She is ALWAYS trying to get into my parents' house, so I brought the carrier in, put it near the sliding glass door in the backyard, and, well, we let her in! My mom lured her into the carrier with some yummy canned food in gravy (mmm...) and in she went.
We also found out that she is about SIX weeks pregnant...so only about TWO more weeks to go!
At first she cried a lot and tried to get out, but then quieted down for most of the ride. Once we got there, she cried some more and got riled up a bit, esp. when some HUGE dogs came in...I'm talking HUGE, people! But she was SO good. The behaviors she had...they were TOTALLY understandable...being in this little carrier thing that she might not have ever been in before, then in a car, then around a bunch of HUGE dogs and people (not that the people were necessarily huge, but to her I'm sure they were...), I'd be scared as hell! So I was very proud of her.
I had a BLAST playing with Archie today. After he did a pretty decent job taking his meds, I "rewarded" him (yeah, yeah, behavioral psychology will never leave a bone in my body) with his favorite toy...we played with his feather on a stick. This is a toy that he only gets to play with if someone else is playing with him b/c it is dangerous for him to play with it unsupervised, so my mom keeps it hidden.
Anyway, it was SO CUTE!!! He now jumps in the air, maybe an inch or so off of the ground, if you put it over his head, and if you wave it back and forth over his head and down to the floor (kind of like making a half-circle over his head from one side of the ground to the other), he'll jump and turn around in mid-air, which is the coolest thing. And of course there's the old favorite...getting him to chase it so that he spins around and around in circles until he gets dizzy. I miss having a kitten and I'm gonna miss these guys. And Archie is already growing up SO FAST!!!
Alright, enough rambling. I have more info on Allie to come, and I think I'm going to put some pics up!
Thanks for reading and commenting everyone! You're all great!!!
